How Much Does a Sahara Desert Tour in Morocco Cost?

Real prices from our own trips: what a camel ride, a 3-day 4x4 tour, a luxury camp or a 10-day trek costs, what is included and what makes the price change.

The honest answer is: it depends on three things, the number of days, the size of your group and the camp you sleep in. To make that concrete, this guide uses only the prices of our own trips, in euros and with their basis, so you can compare like with like. Prices on other sites may be built differently; read what is included before comparing.

The short answer

  • A camel ride from Merzouga into Erg Chebbi: from €65 per person for a sunset ride of about two hours, from €120 per person for the overnight trek with dinner and a night in camp.
  • A 3-day private 4x4 tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga: from €250 per person.
  • A 5-day private tour with a comfortable camp: from €400 per person.
  • A 4-day private tour from Fes to Marrakech with two nights in a luxury camp: from €515 per person.
  • A 10-day Sahara trek from Marrakech in a small group: from €900 per person; 11 days from €980; 13 days from €1,150.

Several of our trips are priced on request, for example the 2-day Zagora tour, the treks from M'Hamid and the day trips from Ouarzazate. For those, tell us your dates and group size and the team sends the price.

Why the group size changes the price per person

On a private 4x4 tour you pay for a vehicle, a driver-guide, fuel and the nights for your group. Those costs are shared, so the price per person falls as the group grows. Our 3-day Erg Chigaga tour shows it clearly: €330 per person for two travellers, €310 for three, €290 for four, €270 for five and €250 for six, in a standard camp. A couple travelling alone pays more per person than a family of six, for exactly the same trip.

Days, distance and the camp

The Sahara is far from the cities, and most of a short tour is road. A longer trip costs more in total but often less per day, because the drive is spread out and you spend more nights in the desert. The camp is the other big variable. A standard camp has traditional tents with mattresses and shared facilities. A comfort or luxury camp has proper beds, a private bathroom and more space. On our 4-day tour from Fes the two nights at Erg Chebbi are in a large canvas tent with a private bathroom, which is part of why it starts at €515 per person.

What is included, and what is not

Each trip page lists what is included and what is not, and it is worth reading before you compare prices. On the 3-day Erg Chigaga tour, for example, the price includes the private 4x4 with an English-speaking driver, two nights (a riad in Zagora and a tent at the Erg Chigaga camp), breakfasts and dinners, a one-hour camel ride at sunset and sandboarding. Lunches and drinks, entrance fees, travel insurance and tips are not included.

Treks work differently: the price covers full board on the trekking days, the camel caravan for the luggage, the camping gear, water and the guide, plus the drive to M'Hamid and the bus back. Riding a camel instead of walking is an option at 35 EUR per day, and a sleeping bag is yours to bring.

Season supplements

Some trips carry a supplement over the Christmas and New Year holidays, from 20 December to 10 January. The supplement is shown in the price table and the season facts of the trip concerned, so check it if you travel in that window. Our desert trips are planned from October to April.

Private or small group?

Our 4x4 tours are private: the vehicle and the guide are for your group only and you choose the date. The long treks are offered in small groups from three travellers, at the prices above, and as private departures on request, priced for your own group and dates.

How to get the right price

Choose two or three trips that match your days and your idea of the desert, then send the team your dates, the number of travellers and the camp you prefer. We reply by email or WhatsApp with the price for your group. Nothing is paid online, and the price you receive includes the items listed on the trip page.
