Cookie policy
In short: a visitor of this website receives only the cookies listed below, which are strictly necessary and first party, no advertising or third-party cookie, and we count visits without any cookie. You can turn the statistics off at any time.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the storage of a browser tab, work the same way and are covered by this policy. The rules that apply are the ePrivacy rules (in the European Union, Directive 2002/58/EC as transposed in each country; in the United Kingdom, PECR), the GDPR and the UK GDPR, and Moroccan law 09-08.
Strictly necessary cookies, those without which a service you ask for cannot work, do not need your consent. Any other cookie would need it. We set none.
The cookies and storage we use
Visitors receive only the following, all set by our own domain (moroccoopentrails.com):
mot_consent
Purpose: Remembers your choice in the cookie banner (statistics on or off), the version of the banner and a random key identifying your choice, so we do not ask again and can prove that your choice is respected. Set by the website when you make a choice in the banner
Duration: 13 months if you accept the statistics, 6 months if you refuse them; then the banner asks again
Type: Strictly necessary, first party. Secure, SameSite=Laxmot_locale
Purpose: Remembers the language you chose, so that the home page opens in that language. Set only when you explicitly choose a language, never before
Duration: 12 months
Type: Strictly necessary, first party. Secure, SameSite=LaxTab storage of a form (sessionStorage)
Purpose: Keeps what you typed in an unfinished form if you reload the page or go back. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us
Duration: Until you close the tab
Type: Strictly necessary, first party, not a cookie
Nothing else is stored on your device when you browse our public pages: no session cookie, no advertising identifier, no tracking cookie.
The sign-in area of our team (/admin) uses its own cookies, only for team members who sign in and never for visitors: a session cookie (mot_admin, 120 minutes of inactivity), the security token of its forms (XSRF-TOKEN, same lifetime) and, only if the member ticks "Remember me", a sign-in cookie (remember_staff, 30 days). They are strictly necessary, HttpOnly where the browser allows it, Secure and limited to the /admin path. The team area also remembers in the browser whether its side menu is folded.
Visit statistics without cookies
We count the pages viewed and the buttons used with our own tool, hosted with the website. It sets no cookie and stores no IP address: unique visits are counted with a pseudonymous code that changes every day and cannot be linked from one day to the next. We keep these statistics because we have a legitimate interest in knowing which trips and pages are useful. They are anonymous in practice and are not shared with anyone. The details, legal basis and retention are in our privacy policy.
You can turn these statistics off with "Reject non-essential" in the banner or in the cookie settings below; we then record nothing about your visit. We also record nothing when your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control".
Third parties
Our pages load no third-party service and set no third-party cookie: no advertising, no social-network plug-in, no external font, map or video, no analytics service of another company.
When you tap a WhatsApp button, you leave our website for WhatsApp (WhatsApp / Meta), whose own cookie and privacy policies apply. An email link opens your own email application.
Changing your choice
The "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page opens the same settings, and you can change your choice as easily as you made it, at any time. Refusing the statistics has no effect on how the website works. You can also delete our cookies in your browser settings; the banner will then ask for your choice again.
Changes and contact
When this policy changes, we update its version and date at the top of this page; a change in the categories of cookies shows the banner again. For any question, write to [Privacy contact email].
